I must admit, my knowledge about the day of the dead is rather fuzzy. I read an article about it long ago, and I seem to remember that the image of the skull is symbolic of the day, but I don’t know too much more than that!
Have you written about it, by any chance? I would love to learn more about this tradition.
Your reflections on November and your creative processes are both beautiful and touching. Channelling your emotions and experiences into your journaling and creative pursuits is a great way to process grief. But it's true that not everyone has the privilege of stepping away from the relentless news cycle to cope with their emotions. Keep following your creative path and continue to find inspiration when you need it the most.
Some days I’m so very grateful for my creative practices. They keep me grounded and sane, help me process complex emotions, and just give me a place to show up just as I am.
Really resonating with the bigness of what's happening on a global scale and the power of utilizing art/writing/creativity as a grounding force to be able to find strength to keep dealing with that
Really grateful for the opportunity to return to grad school again and the amazing inspiring people I'm meeting there who are teaching me so much
My pup needs a big surgery and I'm worried about it but thankful for the support that I have around it
I love the November mornings too. The cool air and the sunlight combo is so nourishing to the soul.
I was using a bullet journal this year, which sort of fell through before mid-year. But now I am using it again since September. I am also using my google calendar with google tasks to keep me organized. Surprisingly this combination of physical and digital planning system is working out for me for the last two months. I am hoping to continue with this system in 2024.
I would love to see your planner system, Shinj. I am a planner junkie. It took a lot of time and effort to wean me off the planners. :)
I’ve heard this hybrid system works for quite a few people, Vini. Hope it works for you next year too!
I used to keep a bullet journal, but I always fell off around mid-year, and setting up the calendar every month got a bit tedious.
I thankfully found a planner that worked for me perfectly at the first try, so I’m not even looking at other planners. I know I’ll be tempted, and I also know that I won’t stick to anything fancy!!
We are celebrating the day of the dead. Honoring friends and family who have crossed to the other side of reality.
Eating and getting together. Sort of our (very Mexican) thanksgiving
Sounds like a reverent and joyful celebration.

Sending healing vibes to your pup, Kathryn! I hope the surgery goes well. And thank God for the creative practices that ground us! <3
Oh number 3! Haha, I have a love-hate relationship with planners. I’ve found what works, a bit 😂
We celebrate Dia de los Muertos in my house. 🙏🏼🖤🖤
Oh I’ve seen your planner pages on Instagram and I love them!
