There’s something about messy layers, about putting down colors and marks in a completely random fashion with no end goal in mind…no pre-conceived idea of what the finished painting will look like…that really appeals to me. It keeps the painting process fresh, opens the doors for delight to wander in.
Simply choosing colors that you love, responding to what is happening on the page rather than chasing a vision or image in your mind, keeps you opens to the possibility of creative magic.
And as you build up the layers on the page, it reminds you of the many layers that make up who you are — your thoughts, ideas, and circumstances…the things you see and do…your ways of being that make up your world view, how you view this journey that you are on through life.
There are so many parallels between the painting process and life!

Watch the process: Be wild
Pull out your favorite acrylic paints, stencils, and a stamp that you can use to create a focal image, and come play with me!
I also chat about painting as process, how I mix colors, and how choosing the colors you love and going all-in with them can help you find your own unique style.
I hope you enjoyed this short process video and my thoughts on the painting process. If it inspired you to pick up paper and paint and give this wild, messy process a go, I’d love to see what you create!
