I have been thinking about this very topic so much. I'm fairly new to Substack and have virtually nothing in the way of followers or engagement. And I've been so fine with it. I'd rather build a community slowly, with like minded folks than chase after numbers. This notion for sure has wider implications and, frankly, this post is more validating than a thousand likes.
That is such a valid way to build a community, Raine! A small community of like-minded folks is better than large numbers that don’t even resonate with your message or don’t read much of what you have to share.
The dopamine hits of likes is a real thing. But I write for me and from my heart no matter what, not for what my audience may like or not like. I’m glad to get more followers but really I try to never forget that it’s me sharing my perspective and insight. That alone is enough. Great piece. Thanks for sharing.
That is such an important thing to remember and hold close! Why we are putting our creativity out there...it's more because we must, and less because we need the applause.

I share very little of my art as I'm not confident about it. I prefer to keep just for me.i have been practicing in a safe group on fb but often I take it down due to judging it not worthy.
It is the process I enjoy. Though I do have a part that asks what is the purpose and stops me creating some times. That was a very interesting read, and I like the idea of being curious about our own work. Looking at what I like etc. That will be a good perspective to take. I struggle with having intrinsic motivation at times.
It's perfectly fine to keep your art for yourself, but judging it not worthy? By what standards? What comparison? All art is worthy, because it's what it does for you (the process) that is so much more important than the outcome. The purpose of art is the enjoyment that I assume you derive from the process. That is enough! xx
I've seen so many artists on Substack, but I just have never come across one like you. It's beautiful what you do here I guess the adrenaline really hit hard....
I'm subscribing to be a part of your beautiful process and I'm wishing you very lovely weekend.
